Corina Gurau

Alumni

Biography

Corina joined the group in 2013 as a DPhil student after receiving her B.Sc. in Computer Science from Jacobs University Bremen, in Germany.

Corina was interested in autonomy on offer, which means letting a robotic agent decide when it can successfully perform a certain autonomous task and fail gracefully with a warning when it is excessively uncertain about its environment. It was surprising how, for instance, state of the art vision systems are sensitive to environmental conditions or changes in location, and still carry significant training dataset biases.

As reliable perception is crucial in robotics, Corina was looking into learning and predicting the perception capabilities of an autonomous vehicle across different places of operation. Her research interests lay primarily in computer vision and robotic perception but she hoped to bring decision making into the way robots understand and act in their environments.
