An Adaptive Soft Sensing Insole for Post-stroke Rehabilitation

An Adaptive Soft Sensing Insole for Post-stroke Rehabilitation

In this project, Fengyu delves into the importance of gait analysis, particularly plantar pressure analysis, in various medical fields, with a focus on post-stroke rehabilitation. Stroke survivors often suffer from walking function impairment, making the restoration of walking a primary goal in their rehabilitation process. The analysis of plantar pressure is crucial in assessing recovery progress; however, current in-shoe systems face challenges, such as poor interface contact between the insole and the deformed paralyzed foot.

To address these limitations, the project aims to design and develop a novel, customized in-shoe system tailored specifically for plantar pressure measurement in post-stroke rehabilitation scenarios. This system will tackle existing challenges, enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of gait analysis, and contribute to improved assessment and treatment of stroke survivors. By creating a more suitable in-shoe system, this DPhil project hopes to pave the way for further research and advancements in post-stroke rehabilitation and the broader field of gait analysis.
